Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel Global University, Vadodara: Courses, Admission

Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel Global University — usually shortened to KPGU — is a private university in Vadodara, Gujarat. It’s named after Dr. Kiran C. Patel and Dr. Pallavi Patel, the Indian-American physician couple based in Florida who have funded education and healthcare projects in both the US and Gujarat.

The university didn’t start from scratch. It was built around institutions that had already been running in Vadodara for years, the best known being the Bhailalbhai and Bhikhabhai Institute of Technology, an engineering college with a long history in the region. Those colleges were brought under a single university structure after the Gujarat government granted private university status under the state act.

The campus sits along the Vadodara–Ahmedabad corridor, which puts students within reach of one of Gujarat’s better industrial and IT belts. That location matters for internships and placements more than most prospectuses admit — proximity to employers does a lot of the work.

This page covers the courses, eligibility, admission routes, documents and fees. Programme lists and fee figures change each year, so verify everything on the official university website before you apply.

About the University

The parent trust had been running technical education in Vadodara well before the university came into being. BBIT, the engineering institute, was affiliated to Gujarat Technological University for years and built up a reasonable reputation locally, particularly in mechanical and computer engineering.

When the group converted to university status, it restructured into separate schools — a common model for newer private universities in Gujarat. Each school handles its own faculty, labs and curriculum, while the university awards the degrees. The Patel family’s involvement brought funding and an international angle, including exchange and collaboration tie-ups.

The campus is on the outskirts of Vadodara, off the national highway. It’s reasonably large, residential, and designed around a central academic zone with hostels and sports facilities. Students generally describe it as modern and well-maintained — newer construction than you’d find at older institutions in the city.

Vadodara works well as a student city. It’s an established industrial centre, has a decent cost of living, and sits between Ahmedabad and Surat on the main rail and road routes.

Scholarships and Financial Support

Students here generally access support through:

  • University merit scholarships based on Class 12 or entrance exam performance
  • Gujarat government post-matric scholarships for SC, ST, OBC, SEBC and EWS students
  • Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana (MYSY) for eligible Gujarat students
  • National Scholarship Portal central schemes
  • Sports and extracurricular concessions, where offered
  • Education loans, for which the university issues the fee structure and bonafide certificate

Government scholarship windows close firmly and rarely reopen. Note the dates as soon as you get admission.

Campus and Facilities

  • Laboratories — engineering workshops, pharmacy labs, science labs, design studios and computer centres
  • Library — subject collections, reference section, journals and digital resources
  • Hostels — separate accommodation for boys and girls, with mess facilities
  • Design studios — dedicated workspace for B.Des students, which matters a great deal in design education
  • Incubation and innovation support — startup and project support cells, where active
  • Sports — grounds, courts and indoor facilities

Frequently Asked Questions

Is KPGU recognised?
Yes, it’s a private university established under the Gujarat Private Universities Act and recognised by the UGC. Individual professional programmes carry approvals from their respective councils. Verify the approval for your specific course on the relevant council’s website.

Is JEE Main required for B.Tech admission?
For state quota seats filled through ACPC, admission is based on JEE Main or GUJCET merit as per the current rules. Other categories of seats may follow a different route. Check the ACPC notification for the current year.

Can I take direct admission?
For programmes outside centralised counselling — such as BBA, BCA, B.Com, B.Des, BA and several PG courses — admission is generally merit-based on your qualifying exam marks, applied for directly with the university. For regulated courses like degree engineering and pharmacy, the counselling route applies. Be cautious of anyone promising a guaranteed seat in a regulated programme.

Does the university offer hostel facilities?
Yes, with separate hostels for male and female students and mess facilities on campus. Allotment is usually first-come, so apply early.

What is the university known for?
Engineering is its longest-running strength, inherited from the institutions that preceded the university. Design, pharmacy and management have grown since, and the emerging technology programmes attract interest from students looking at AI and data science.

Are scholarships available?
Yes. The university offers merit-based concessions, and eligible students can apply for Gujarat government scholarships, MYSY and central schemes through the Digital Gujarat and National Scholarship portals.

When does admission open?
It varies. ACPC-governed courses follow the state counselling calendar, usually running from June through September. Direct admission programmes typically open from around March or April and continue until seats fill. Follow the official admission notice.

Where is the campus located?
The campus is in Vadodara, Gujarat, on the outskirts of the city near the main highway. Vadodara is about 110 km from Ahmedabad and 150 km from Surat, with good rail and road connectivity and an airport in the city.
