What is NEET PG Counselling?

NEET PG Counselling is the official admission process for postgraduate medical courses like MD, MS, PG Diploma, and DNB. After NBEMS declares the result, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats. Meanwhile, individual state authorities manage the remaining 50% state quota seats. Therefore, every qualified candidate can participate in both processes at the same time.

Furthermore, MCC covers deemed universities, central universities, and ESIC institutions under one umbrella. As a result, a single registration on mcc.nic.in opens doors to hundreds of colleges across India. However, state counselling still requires a separate application on each state’s official portal.

Who Conducts NEET PG Counselling?

1. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC): First, MCC handles the 50% All India Quota seats in government medical colleges. Additionally, it manages admissions for deemed universities, central universities, ESIC institutions, and DNB programs under the national pool.

2. State Counselling Authorities: On the other hand, state directorates control the 50% state quota seats. Moreover, they also allocate seats in private medical colleges located within their respective states. Consequently, you must track both the MCC schedule and your home state’s notification separately.

Eligibility Criteria for NEET PG Counselling 2026

To enter the counselling process, you must satisfy the following conditions:

You must hold an MBBS degree or a provisional pass certificate from a recognized institution.
You must have completed your one-year internship by the prescribed cutoff date.
You must qualify NEET PG 2026 with the minimum percentile (50% for General, 40% for reserved categories, and 45% for PwD).
You must possess a valid medical registration certificate issued by NMC or a State Medical Council.

How to Register on MCC: Step-by-Step Process

Visit the Portal: Open mcc.nic.in and select the “PG Medical Counselling” section.
Register: Enter your NEET PG roll number, name, and contact details exactly as they appear on your admit card.
Pay the Fee: Complete the payment of the registration fee and refundable security deposit online.
Fill Choices: Add your preferred colleges and specializations in priority order.
Lock Choices: Lock your list before the deadline; otherwise, the system will auto-lock it.
Check Allotment: Download your allotment letter and either join the college or opt for upgradation.

Rounds of NEET PG Counselling Explained

Round 1: Fresh registration opens for all qualified candidates. Importantly, you can freely exit the process here without any penalty.
Round 2: Candidates who missed Round 1 can register freshly. However, if you resign after accepting a Round 2 seat, the authority may forfeit your security deposit.
Mop-Up Round: This round fills seats vacated after Round 2. Notably, no exit is permitted once the system allots a seat here.
Stray Vacancy Round: Finally, MCC fills the last remaining vacancies. Only registered candidates without a seat can participate in this final stage.
