Dr. Subhash University, Junagadh: Courses, Admission, Eligibility & Fees

Dr. Subhash University is located in Junagadh, Gujarat. It’s a private university that grew out of the Dr. Subhash group of institutions — a set of colleges that had been running in the city for years before being brought together under a single university structure under the Gujarat Private Universities Act.

For students in Saurashtra, the name was already familiar long before the university came into existence. The nursing and technical colleges under the same management had been admitting students for a long time, and much of that faculty and infrastructure carried over. What changed was the scope: a university can offer its own degrees, run research programmes, and expand into new faculties without going through an affiliating body each time.

Junagadh itself works well as a student city. It’s smaller and considerably cheaper than Ahmedabad or Rajkot, well connected by road and rail, and close enough to Rajkot and Porbandar for weekend travel. Living costs are modest, which matters when you’re funding a four-year degree.

This page covers the courses, eligibility, admission steps and documents. Fees, seat intake and approvals change from year to year, so confirm everything on the official university website before you apply.

About the University

The institutions under this management started out as standalone colleges — nursing first, then technical and professional courses. Over time the group built up enough departments and infrastructure to apply for university status, which the Gujarat government granted under the state’s private universities legislation.

That history shows in the course mix. Health sciences, particularly nursing, remain the strongest area. The technical and management faculties are growing. Arts, commerce and science programmes serve the local demand from Junagadh district and the surrounding talukas.

The campus is on the outskirts of the city. It’s not sprawling, but it’s self-contained — academic buildings, laboratories, a library, hostels and sports space in one place. Students generally describe it as quiet and workable rather than flashy.

Admission Process: Step by Step

The route depends on whether your course sits under state counselling or direct university admission.

For courses under Gujarat state counselling — degree engineering, diploma engineering, pharmacy, B.Ed and some others

  1. Register with the relevant admission committee, usually ACPC for technical and pharmacy courses.
  2. Complete document verification at a designated help centre.
  3. Fill in your college and course choices in order of preference.
  4. Wait for seat allotment based on merit and your choices.
  5. Confirm the seat by paying the token or admission fee within the deadline.
  6. Report to the university with your original documents.

For nursing courses

  1. Check the admission notification on the university website.
  2. Submit the application form with the required fee.
  3. Appear for counselling or merit-based selection as notified, following INC and state nursing council requirements.
  4. Submit documents for verification, including the medical fitness certificate.
  5. Pay the fee and complete admission formalities.

For management, computer applications, science, commerce and arts programmes

  1. Fill in the application form online or at the admission office.
  2. Submit your qualifying exam marksheet and other documents.
  3. Appear for a personal interaction or entrance test if the university schedules one.
  4. Check the merit list when it’s published.
  5. Complete verification and pay the fee to confirm your seat.

For PhD

  1. Apply when the research admission notification is released.
  2. Appear for the entrance test, unless exempt through NET, JRF or SET.
  3. Attend the interview and present your research area or proposal.
  4. Get allotted a supervisor and complete registration.

Documents Required

Keep originals and at least two sets of photocopies ready. Scanned copies should be clear and within the file size the portal allows.

Academic

  • Class 10 marksheet and certificate, which also serves as date of birth proof
  • Class 12 marksheet and certificate
  • Graduation marksheets and degree certificate, for PG applicants
  • Diploma marksheets and certificate, for lateral entry candidates
  • School Leaving Certificate or Transfer Certificate
  • Migration Certificate, if you’re coming from another board or university

Entrance and counselling

  • Entrance exam scorecard, where applicable — JEE Main, GUJCET, CMAT or other
  • ACPC registration and allotment letter, for state counselling seats
  • Counselling fee receipt

Identity and category

  • Aadhaar card
  • Passport-size photographs, usually six to eight
  • Caste or category certificate, if claiming reservation
  • Non-creamy layer certificate for OBC/SEBC candidates, valid for the current year
  • EWS certificate, where applicable
  • Domicile or residence certificate
  • Income certificate, if applying for a scholarship or fee concession

Other

  • Medical fitness certificate, mandatory for nursing and physiotherapy courses
  • Character certificate from the previous institution
  • Gap certificate or affidavit, if there’s a break in your studies
  • Anti-ragging undertaking signed by the student and a parent
  • Nursing council registration, for Post Basic B.Sc and M.Sc Nursing applicants

Scan everything and keep a backup on your phone and in cloud storage. Counselling deadlines are short and you may need a document at an hour’s notice.

Fee Structure

Fees differ considerably across faculties. Nursing, pharmacy and engineering programmes cost more than arts, commerce and general science degrees. Hostel and mess charges are separate.

For courses admitted through state counselling, the fee is often governed by the Gujarat Fee Regulatory Committee rather than set freely by the university. That’s worth knowing before anyone quotes you a different figure.

Ask the admission office specifically about:

  • Annual tuition fee for your exact course
  • Hostel and mess charges per year
  • One-time admission, registration and caution deposit
  • Examination and university development fees
  • Uniform, lab coat and equipment costs for nursing and health science courses
  • Whether instalment payment is permitted

Get the fee structure in writing. Verbal assurances are worth nothing when the second-year bill arrives.

Scholarships and Financial Support

Students here typically access support through:

  • Gujarat government post-matric scholarships for SC, ST, OBC, SEBC and EWS students
  • Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana (MYSY) for eligible Gujarat students
  • National Scholarship Portal central schemes
  • Digital Gujarat scholarship portal applications
  • University merit concessions, where offered
  • Education loans, for which the university provides the fee structure and bonafide certificate

Application windows for government scholarships close firmly. Miss the date and you usually wait a full academic year.

Campus and Facilities

  • Laboratories — subject labs for nursing, pharmacy, engineering, computer applications and science programmes
  • Nursing skills lab — mannequins and simulation setups for practical training
  • Library — subject-wise book sections, reference material and digital resources
  • Hostels — separate accommodation for boys and girls, with mess facilities
  • Computer centre — labs with internet access for IT and computer application students
  • Clinical tie-ups — hospital attachments for nursing and physiotherapy students’ practical postings
  • Sports — grounds and indoor facilities
  • Seminar hall and auditorium — for guest lectures, workshops and events
  • Transport — bus service on routes within Junagadh and nearby areas
  • Wi-Fi — across academic areas

For nursing and physiotherapy students, the question worth asking during a campus visit is where clinical postings happen and how many hours of hands-on exposure you actually get. That varies between institutions far more than brochures suggest.
