The
Government Medical College and Super
Facility Hospital Chakrapanpur Azamgarh MBBS admission
2026-27 process is one of the most sought-after
government medical seat opportunities in eastern Uttar
Pradesh. Established in 2019 under the Uttar Pradesh
government’s ambitious medical college expansion
initiative, this NMC approved government medical college
in Azamgarh district brings world-class medical
education to one of UP’s most underserved healthcare
regions. Furthermore, with 100 NMC approved MBBS seats
and government regulated affordable fees, this college
represents a transformative opportunity for NEET
qualified students from eastern UP, Bihar and surrounding
states.
Since Azamgarh district has historically lacked
tertiary healthcare facilities, the establishment of
the Government Medical College with its attached Super
Facility Hospital serves dual purposes — expanding
medical education capacity and improving healthcare
delivery for Azamgarh and its neighbouring districts
including Mau, Ballia, Jaunpur and Ambedkar Nagar.
Consequently, MBBS students at this college receive
clinical exposure that includes a patient population
representative of eastern UP’s genuine healthcare burden
— tropical diseases, obstetric complications, trauma
cases and communicable disease patterns that urban
medical colleges rarely encounter in comparable volumes.

About Government Medical College Chakrapanpur
Azamgarh — History, Background and Significance
Government Medical College and Super Facility Hospital
Chakrapanpur, Azamgarh was established in 2019 as part
of the Uttar Pradesh government’s strategic initiative
to open new government medical colleges across districts
that historically lacked medical education institutions.
The college is situated at Chakrapanpur in Azamgarh
district — a location chosen for its connectivity to
the district headquarters and proximity to the region’s
patient population.
Azamgarh district, with a population of approximately
46 lakh (2011 census — estimated 55 lakh by 2026),
had no dedicated government medical college prior to
2019. Students from Azamgarh aspiring to medical
education had to travel to Gorakhpur, Varanasi or
Lucknow — distances of 100 to 300 km — creating
significant financial and logistical barriers.
Additionally, the district’s healthcare infrastructure
relied on community health centres and district
hospitals for secondary care, with patients requiring
tertiary care travelling long distances. The establishment
of GMC Azamgarh addresses both gaps simultaneously —
providing local medical education and tertiary healthcare
through the attached Super Facility Hospital.
Although the college is relatively young — in its
seventh year of operation by 2026 — it is actively
building academic and clinical infrastructure under
DMER (Directorate of Medical Education and Research)
UP’s oversight and NMC’s regulatory framework. Moreover,
the attached Super Facility Hospital is a state-of-the-art
healthcare facility built to handle complex medical
cases from Azamgarh and surrounding districts, providing
MBBS students with genuine clinical exposure from their
clinical years onward.

PG Medical Programmes — Future Plans
As a newly established government medical college,
GMC Chakrapanpur Azamgarh is focused on consolidating
MBBS education for the first few batches. Since NMC
requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years of MBBS operations
before postgraduate MD/MS programmes can commence,
the college is expected to apply for PG recognition
from 2024-25 batch completion onwards. Furthermore,
UP government’s long-term plan for all new GMCs
includes progressive expansion to MD/MS in
core specialties. However, PG admission at GMC
Azamgarh is not yet available for 2026-27.
NEET 2026 Cutoff for Government Medical College
Azamgarh — Expected Marks
Based on previous UP NEET counselling trends for
new government medical colleges, the
expected NEET 2026 cutoff for GMC Chakrapanpur
Azamgarh is approximately
550 to 600 marks for General category
state quota and
480 to 530 marks for
SC category. Since this is a government college with
100 seats, competition is high. Verify official cutoffs
at

after UP NEET 2026 counselling rounds.
NEET 2026 Cutoff and Eligibility — Government Medical
College Azamgarh
The NEET cutoff for Government Medical College
Chakrapanpur Azamgarh is determined by UP NEET
counselling merit lists. Since this is a government
medical college with highly subsidised fees, competition
for its 100 seats is intense among NEET-qualified UP
domicile candidates. Furthermore, as a relatively new
government medical college, its NEET closing ranks have
shown an improving trend each year as the college’s
reputation builds. Consequently, candidates targeting
GMC Azamgarh should aim for NEET scores above 550
marks for a realistic chance at state quota seats.

Reviews and Feedback 2025-26
4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“GMC Azamgarh is a good
government medical college considering it was
established in 2019. The Super Facility Hospital
has genuinely good patient inflow — OPD is very
busy which gives us real clinical exposure. Government
fees are negligible compared to private medical
colleges. Faculty are qualified — mostly specialists
posted by UP government. The anatomy hall and
physiology labs are adequate for Phase 1 teaching.
Being from eastern UP, I am proud that we now have
a government medical college in our region.”
— MBBS 2nd Year Student
(2024 Batch — OBC Category)
4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“The NEET cutoff for GMC
Azamgarh is slightly lower than older government
medical colleges like BRD Gorakhpur or GSVM Kanpur
which makes it a realistic target for UP students
with 550 to 580 NEET marks who want government
MBBS. Since fees are government-regulated — just
a few thousand rupees per year — this college
delivers extraordinary value. Hospital infrastructure
is still developing but patient diversity from
rural eastern UP is a genuine clinical education
advantage.”
— MBBS 1st Year Student
(2025 Batch — General Category)
3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
“Being a new college, some
infrastructure is still under development — hostel
completion was delayed. However, the teaching
quality is good since faculty are UP government
posted specialists. The college follows NMC CBME
curriculum properly. For students who missed private
medical college but secured government quota through
UP NEET counselling with 550 NEET marks, GMC
Azamgarh is genuinely a life-changing opportunity.”
— MBBS 3rd Year Student

People Also Ask — Government Medical College
Azamgarh 2026
Is Government Medical College Azamgarh good for
MBBS?
Yes. Government Medical College Chakrapanpur
Azamgarh is a credible choice for MBBS — particularly
for students seeking affordable government medical
education in eastern UP. Since it is NMC approved and
a government institution, the MBBS degree carries full
validity for all purposes including NEET PG, government
medical officer jobs, private practice and international
medical licensing. Furthermore, government medical
college fees of Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 per year make
it accessible for families who cannot afford private
medical college fees of Rs 10 to Rs 25 lakh per year.
As infrastructure matures with each passing year,
the college’s academic quality is steadily improving.
What NEET score is needed for GMC Azamgarh 2026?
Based on previous year UP NEET counselling trends,
a NEET score of approximately 550 to 600 marks is
needed for General category state quota seats at GMC
Chakrapanpur Azamgarh 2026. OBC candidates need
approximately 520 to 570 marks. SC candidates need
approximately 480 to 530 marks. Since GMC Azamgarh is
a government college with only 100 seats, competition
is high. Verify official closing ranks after UP NEET
2026 counselling at
updmhp.org.
Is GMC Azamgarh in the NMC approved medical college
list?
Yes. Government Medical College and Super Facility
Hospital Chakrapanpur Azamgarh is listed in the NMC
(National Medical Commission) approved medical college
list available at nmc.org.in. The college received NMC
approval following inspection and compliance
verification after its establishment in 2019. You can
verify NMC approval by searching “Azamgarh” in the NMC
college search portal at
nmc.org.in.

What subjects are taught in Phase 1 MBBS at GMC
Azamgarh?

College Azamgarh covers three core pre-clinical
subjects — Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry —
along with the NMC-mandated Foundation Course at the
beginning of the programme. The Foundation Course
covers communication skills, research methodology
basics, clinical reasoning introduction and community
health orientation. Phase 1 lasts 12 months and
concludes with the First MBBS professional examination
conducted by the affiliating university.
Can I get MBBS at GMC Azamgarh with 500 NEET marks?
A NEET score of 500 marks makes government quota
MBBS admission at GMC Chakrapanpur Azamgarh very
unlikely for General category based on previous year
closing marks of 550 to 592. However, SC category
candidates at 500 marks may have better chances at
state quota seats given lower reservation cutoffs.
OBC at 500 marks is also typically below the expected
OBC cutoff of 520 to 570. If your score is around 500,
consider private medical colleges in UP as an
alternative route.

Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh — Why This Location
Matters for MBBS Students
Azamgarh is one of eastern Uttar Pradesh’s most
historically significant cities — the birthplace of
legendary Hindi poets and scholars including Ramdhari
Singh Dinkar’s inspirational legacy, and home to a
rich cultural and intellectual tradition. Despite its
cultural importance, Azamgarh district has historically
lacked adequate tertiary healthcare and medical
education infrastructure — a gap that the establishment
of Government Medical College Chakrapanpur is
systematically addressing.
Since Azamgarh district borders Mau, Ballia, Jaunpur,
Ambedkar Nagar and Sultanpur districts — collectively
a region with a population exceeding 2 crore people —
the patient catchment area for Super Facility Hospital
Chakrapanpur is enormous. Furthermore, eastern UP’s
disease burden — high rates of tuberculosis, vector-
borne diseases including malaria and dengue, high
maternal mortality in rural areas, agricultural injury
trauma and nutritional deficiency disorders — provides
MBBS students with clinical exposure to conditions that
urban medical schools in Lucknow or Delhi rarely see
in comparable volumes.
Moreover, Azamgarh has strong diaspora connections —
particularly in Gulf countries — making the city
increasingly prosperous. This growing local economy
translates into better private practice opportunities
for MBBS graduates who choose to return and serve
their home region after completing postgraduate
training. Consequently, choosing GMC Azamgarh is
not just a financial decision but also a strategic
career choice for students committed to medical
service in eastern UP.
